Green Mountain Boxwood is a vigorous evergreen shrub with bright green foliage that retains good color throughout winter. The upright, naturally cone-shaped habit makes it an excellent candidate for topiary forms, and a striking container or formal garden accent. It will grow to be about 1.5m tall at maturity with a spread of 1m. It is a good choice for attracting bees to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone.

This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It grows at a quicker rate than other boxwood varieties, and under optimal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 30 years. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't require facer plants. This broadleaf evergreen is used for topiary and makes a great low hedge.

Helpful Care Instructions:

If you wish to define and maintain a clean shape, the Green Velvet Boxwood should be pruned once or twice a season. Pruning is very simple and can be performed both spring and fall. With a pruner simply clip away any branches that stand out from the desired shape. VanDongen's Youtube page also features how to videos on the subject.
